Privacy Policy
Wedding footage is personal. This page explains, in plain words, what Sparkler (“we”) collects when couples and their guests use sparklerfilms.com, what we do with it, and how to get it deleted. The short version: we use your photos and videos only to make your films and album, we never sell them or use them for ads, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
What we collect
From couples
- Your names, email address and the details of your wedding (date, time zone, venue, guest count, the moods and music you pick).
- Payment details. These go straight to our payment processor, Stripe. We see the amount, the date and the last four digits of the card, never the full card number.
- Your choices in the dashboard: favourites, hidden items, sharing settings and the films you build.
From guests
- The photos and videos you upload, including the sound in your videos.
- Your name or nickname, if you choose to give one. Guests do not need an account or an email address.
- Guestbook and time-capsule messages you choose to leave.
- A selfie, only if you use the optional “Find me” feature (see below).
From everyone who visits
- Basic technical data: pages visited, the site that sent you here, device and browser type, and approximate location from your IP address.
- Cookies that keep you signed in, remember an upload in progress, and tell us which link brought you here. If we run ads, we may also use advertising or analytics cookies (for example from Meta or Google) to measure them.
How we use it
- To make your films, guest reels and photo album. Our editing software analyses each clip (picture, motion, faces, speech and laughter) to choose the best moments.
- To run your account: sign-in links, receipts, “your film is ready” emails and replies to your questions.
- To keep the service safe and working: preventing abuse, fixing problems and making backups.
- To understand how people find us and improve the site.
We do not sell your personal information, use your photos or videos in our own marketing without asking you first, or let anyone use them to train AI models.
“Find me” and face data
“Find me” is optional. If a guest takes a selfie, we compare it with the faces in that one wedding’s photos and videos to find the ones they appear in. The selfie is deleted as soon as it has been compared. The face measurements made from it are used only for that wedding and are deleted within 30 days, or right away if you ask. We never share, sell or reuse face data. Guests can always find themselves by name instead. Faces in the wedding’s photos and videos are also analysed to frame shots well and to build “Find me” matches; that information stays with the wedding and is deleted with it.
Who can see your wedding
Your guest page is unlisted, and your clips are stored privately and encrypted at rest. Your films and album are visible only to people who have the link, unless you choose to make your gallery public in your sharing settings. The couple can see, hide and delete everything guests upload to their wedding.
Companies that help us
We use a small number of trusted providers, each only for its part of the service and under contracts that limit what it may do with your data:
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Fly.io runs the computers that edit your films.
- Cloudflare stores your photos, videos and films (R2 storage) and handles our domain.
- Neon hosts our database.
- Backblaze keeps an encrypted off-site backup so nothing is ever lost.
- Stripe processes payments.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Anthropic (the Claude AI) looks at still frames and transcripts to help plan each film. Anthropic does not train its models on this data.
- Deepgram transcribes speech in clips so toasts and vows can be cut cleanly. We have opted out of Deepgram using it to improve its models.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a sale of the business (in which case this policy keeps applying to your data).
How long we keep it
- Your wedding, films and album stay in your account so you can come back to them, until you ask us to delete them.
- When a couple deletes a photo or video, it is permanently removed after a 30-day grace period (so a mistake can be undone). Backup copies are removed within a further 90 days.
- Download zips expire after 7 days. Selfies and face data are deleted as described above.
- We keep payment records as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to see, correct, download or delete your personal information, or to delete a whole wedding, by emailing hello@sparklerfilms.com. Guests can ask the couple to remove something, or ask us directly. We will confirm the request comes from you and reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Virginia, the UK or the EU), you may have further rights, such as to know what we hold or to complain to a data protection authority; we honour these for everyone, wherever you live. We will never treat you differently for using them.
Children
Sparkler is for adults planning and attending weddings. Couples must be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; children often appear in wedding footage, and that footage belongs to the couple’s private wedding. If you want footage of your child removed, email us.
Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest. Access to customer data is limited to the few people who run Sparkler, and only to help you or keep the service working. No system is perfectly secure, but we will tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and email couples with active accounts before the change takes effect. See also our Terms of Service and Refund Policy.
